The Melbourne Renegades have signed Sri Lanka all-rounder Thisara Perera as a replacement for Dwayne Bravo.

Bravo was ruled out for the rest of the Big Bash League (BBL) after undergoing surgery to repair a torn hamstring he suffered during the Renegades’ loss to the Perth Scorchers on December 29.

Even though Perera last played in the BBL in 2013/14, where he represented the Brisbane Heat, he is coming off a successful campaign in the Bangladesh Premier League as he scored 163 runs at an average of 27.16 and took nine wickets at an average of 29.22 for the Barisal Bulls.

Perera also featured in Sri Lanka’s ODI and Twenty20 series against Australia in August-September last year, but failed to have much of an impact with both the bat and ball.
