“I’ll now have surgery and the rehabilitation to get me fit and playing at my best again”

Melbourne Renegades all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been ruled out for the rest of the Big Bash League (BBL) after suffering a hamstring injury.

Bravo, who plays for the West Indies, injured his hamstring while diving to try and stop a boundary during his side’s clash with the Perth Scorchers on Thursday. He was subsequently stretchered off the field on a Medicab.

Bravo underwent scans on Friday morning and it was confirmed that he had suffered a serious injury and would need to undergo surgery.

“Unfortunately my Big Bash season is over which is very disappointing,” the 33-year-0ld said on Friday. “I’ll now have surgery and the rehabilitation to get me fit and playing at my best again. I want to thank all the Renegades fans for their support for me and I hope to see them again next season.”

Renegades captain Aaron Finch and spinner Brad Hogg both admitted that Bravo will be missed, especially as he was one of the players in the squad that was able to contribute with the bat and ball.

“It’s a huge blow, he’s one of the best all-rounders in the world,” Finch said. “It’s an unbelievably damaging blow for us, but also for him because we know how much he loves coming out here.”

Hogg added: “I drove him home last night and he was more gutted about the loss. You never want to see players like that go down. If you see the footage, his ankle went below him and the surface was a bit uneven.

“At the end of the day, you do lose players throughout the tournament. We’ve lost James Pattinson for the first couple of games and that’s a big loss.

“And that’s where the other guys have got to step up and play their roles. If you’re going to win the Big Bash, you’re going to require all 18 of the squad.”
