Pakistan left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir was diagnosed with a side strain on the fourth day of the third Test against Australia in Sydney and subsequently underwent scans.

Amir sustained the injury while training prior to the start of the penultimate day, which was delayed due to heavy rain and a wet outfield.

Amir did not bowl at all in Australia’s second innings and it remains unclear how long he will be out of action for.

“Amir picked a side strain underneath his left-arm during the practice session in the morning today and has gone for an MRI scan,” Pakistan media manager Amjad Hussain Bhatti said.

This is not the first time Pakistan have been sweating over Amir’s fitness as on the opening day of the first Test in Brisbane, the 24-year-old seemed to have suffered a serious injury when his knee got stuck in the ground while he was fielding near the boundary. However, despite being taken off on a Medicab, Amir returned about five overs later.
