Rod Marsh has informed Cricket Australia that he will step down as chairman of selectors once his contract finishes in 2017.
As a result of Marsh’s announcement, the 2016/17 Australian summer will be the last under the current selection panel, which also includes Trevor Hohns, Mark Waugh and Australia head coach Darren Lehmann.
A Cricket Australia spokesman confirmed Marsh will leave his post in June next year and added that a decision on who will succeed him has yet to be made.
“We can confirm that Rod Marsh has decided not to continue on in his role as national selector once his contract expires in June 2017,” the spokesperson said. “At this stage no decision has been made on a replacement.”
Marsh was initially appointed to the selection panel in 2011 under then chairman of selectors John Inverarity, but took over Inverarity’s position when he left in 2014.
During Marsh’s time as chairman of selectors, Australia were briefly the top-ranked Test team in the world and are currently ranked first in the ODI team rankings despite being whitewashed 5-0 by South Africa. But, the main highlight of his tenure will be Australia’s triumphant campaign in the 2015 World Cup.
