The Delhi Daredevils escaped with a 10-run win over the Mumbai Indians even though Rohit Sharma, captain of the latter side, scored a valiant 65.

Sanju Samson starred for the Daredevils with the bat as he smashed a magnificent 60, while spinner Amit Mishra excelled in the bowling department as he took two wickets in, what was, a superb spell.

Sharma would have been pleased with his decision to bowl first early on as his side had the Daredevils on the back foot when they reduced them to 54/3 in the eighth over.

However, Samson steered the Daredevils’ innings back on track with his knock of 60, which came off 48 balls and included four boundaries and two sixes.

After Samson was dismissed, South Africa all-rounder JP Duminy took over as he hammered an unbeaten 49, which came off 31 deliveries and included three boundaries and two sixes.

Thanks to Samson and Duminy, the Daredevils finished on 164/4 off their 20 overs.

Mitchell McClenaghan was the pick of the bowler with two wickets, while Hardik Pandya and Harbhajan Singh chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 165 to win, Sharma was the only batsman to have a major impact for the Indians as he led by example with his knock of 65, which came off 48 balls and included seven boundaries and a six.

Sharma even appeared to be leading the Indians to a come-from-behind win, but his collision with Pandya in the final over proved extremely costly as he ended up being run out.

With Krunal Pandya and Ambati Rayudu being the only other batsmen to surpass the 20-run mark, the Indians fell short of their target.

Mishra was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Chris Morris and skipper Zaheer Khan claimed one wicket each.

Samson was named Man of the Match.
