The Barbados Tridents are quickly establishing themselves as the team to beat in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after they demolished the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel by eight wickets.

Pace bowler Jason Holder was the Tridents’ superstar during the match as he claimed three wickets while only conceding 11 measly runs.

It was due to Holder and the rest of the Tridents’ bowling attack that the Red Steel were restricted to 95/9 off their 20 overs.

Red Steel captain Dwayne Bravo was his team’s top-scorer with 30, while Jason Mohammed had the second-highest score of 20.

Holder was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Ravi Rampaul, Robin Peterson, skipper Kieron Pollard and Jeevan Mendis chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 96 to win, the Tridents got off to a superb start as Dwayne Smith and Dilshan Munaweera amassed a 73-run partnership before Munaweera was caught by Mohammed at cover off the bowling of Sulieman Benn for 39.

Benn struck again the very next ball when Smith was caught by Johan Botha at long-on for 33.

Despite being dealt a double blow, the Tridents managed to keep their cool and ended up reaching their target with 41 balls to spare.

Benn was the only bowler to take any wickets.

Holder was named Man of the Match.
