The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are seeking an explanation from batsman Sabbir Rahman after he took part in an indoor cricket tournament without permission on Wednesday morning.

Rahman, who is part of Bangladesh’s ODI squad, travelled to Bogra with the high performance programme players on Tuesday morning. However, he returned back to Dhaka to play in the final of a celebrity cricket tournament at the Sohrawardi Indoor Stadium.

The match, which was six overs per side, ended at 4am on Wednesday morning and Rahman subsequently travelled back to Bogra to join the rest of the high performance squad, who will be playing a number of preparatory matches prior to the three-match ODI series against India.

“I am aware of the incident so we have sought an explanation from Sabbir,” BCB cricket operations committee chairman Naimur Rahman told ESPNcricinfo. “He is currently under the high performance programme but as he is also an ODI player, he should have asked us for permission.”
