Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara has become the first player in the history of the sport to score three consecutive centuries in the World Cup.

Sangakkara achieved the feat after scoring 105 not out against Bangladesh, 117 not out against England and 104 against Australia.

Sangakkara has also joined an elite club of cricketers who have scored three consecutive centuries in ODIs. That club includes Zaheer Abbas, Saeed Anwar, Herschelle Gibbs, AB de Villiers, Quinton de Kock and Ross Taylor.

In addition to all this, Sangakkara became only the second player after India’s Sachin Tendulkar to score 14,000 ODI runs, which he accomplished during the match against Australia.
