Legendary India batsman VVS Laxman has been awarded an honorary doctorate from TERI University in Delhi during their seventh convocation ceremony.

Three other people were also given honorary doctorates. They are former president of East Timor José Manuel Ramos-Horta, Unilever CEO Paul Polman and Hitachi chairman Hiroaki Nakanishi.

“I am happy because I wanted to become a doctor but realised my dream to play for the country,” Laxman said. “This is the right time for the youth to realise their personal aspirations and bring glory to the nation.”
