Former Australia skipper Greg Chappell believes that flamboyant opening batsman David Warner should be the country’s next Test captain.

Chappell’s comments come after current captain Michael Clarke injured his back while batting against India on the first day of the first Test in Adelaide.

“I’m a great fan of David Warner, I think David could do the job and looking forward, you’ve got fellas like Mitchell Marsh coming into the side, who is also a proven leader,” Chappell was quoted as saying by the Herald Sun. “I think Steven (Smith) is also one of a number who could do it.

“When the time comes I’m sure whoever gets it will do a good job.”
