The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will request the International Cricket Council (ICC) to allow them to find a replacement for wicketkeeper-batsman Craig Kieswetter in their preliminary World Cup squad.
The move comes after Kieswetter admitted that he was still having vision problems while playing for the Warriors in South Africa’s Ram Slam T20 Challenge.
However, what makes it even worse is the fact that Kieswetter is likely to be out of action for the whole of next year.
Kieswetter’s eye problems arose when he was was hit in the face while playing for Somerset in a County Championship match against Northamptonshire. As a result of being hit, the 27-year-old broke his nose and sustained severe damage to his eye socket and cheekbone.
It is understood that the ECB want to call up Kent wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings after the 23-year-old averaged 81.66 in this season’s Royal London One-Day Cup.
