The University of Pretoria has been accredited by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as the latest testing centre where bowlers can get their actions tested.
The University of Pretoria joins Cricket Australia’s National Cricket Center in Brisbane, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Loughborough University and Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai as venues where bowlers can be tested after they are reported for suspect actions.
The facility has an indoor area which is large enough to allow bowlers to take a full run-up before bowling, a motion analysis system with a minimum of 12 high-speed cameras capable of producing three-dimensional data, and qualified personnel who have experience is using the equipment and upholding ICC testing protocols.
The ICC released a statement which said that the University of Pretoria will help “tackle the issue of illegal bowling actions in a number of ways, including the location of accredited testing facilities in each region”.
