India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only cricketer to be named on Forbes’ Highest-Paid Athletes list.
However, even though he fell from being 16th in 2013 to 22nd this year, Dhoni still earns more money than Manchester United footballer Wayne Rooney, Jamaican sprint sensation Usain Bolt and tennis star Maria Sharapova.
Boxer Floyd Mayweather was at the top of the list with his earnings estimated to be worth US$105 million. This was without the help of any endorsements. Mayweather had been 14th last year, but shot up to number one this year.
Real Madrid footballer Cristiano Ronaldo was second with US$80 million and Miami Heat basketball superstar Lebron James was third with US$72.3 million
According to Forbes, Dhoni’s earnings have dropped from US$31.5 million to US$30 million.
But, the most surprising aspect of Dhoni’s presence on the list is the incredible amount of money he made through endorsements.
Dhoni made US$26 million through endorsements from July 2013 to May 2014. Only seven other athletes made more money through endorsements.
