Rumours of former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff’s comeback have strengthened after it was revealed that he and Lancashire are close to a deal.

According to insiders with knowledge, they say that the deal is at an “advanced stage”.

It is also understood that Flintoff has been offered a coaching role as well.

There was a lot of buzz about him playing in Lancashire’s first Twenty20 match against Nottinghamshire on May 16, but those rumours have been squashed after the all-rounder injured his ankle while doing some fielding drills.

It was also revealed that Flintoff will first have to prove that he is fit enough to play for Lancashire’s first team by representing their second XI in a Twenty20 match.
