Umpire Sanjay Hazare will not be officiating in any more Indian Premier League (IPL) matches for the remainder of the tournament.

There has been no specific reason given for the decision, but Hazare recently botched a run out decision against Delhi Daredevils captain Kevin Pietersen.

The incident occurred during Delhi’s match against the Rajasthan Royals on May 3 and Hazare refused to signal for the third umpire even though replays showed that Pietersen was out of his crease.

“He has been removed. There are many reasons,” IPL chairman Ranjib Biswal told ESPNcricinfo.

Hazare revealed that he had been asked about the incident by the match referee after the match and told ESPNcricinfo: “I was confident that he made his ground. I was very clear about that. And hence I did not refer to the third umpire.

“I told him [match referee] the same thing. It was a human error. Once I had made the decision I could not correct it.”
