Cowan is enjoying his role as an opening batsman
After Australia all-rounder Shane Watson announced that he would be giving up bowling in order to prolong his international career, he also started gunning for Ed Cowan’s opening spot on the Test roster, but Cowan has refused to back down and instead stated that there is no doubt in his mind that he deserves to open for the national team.
Since the conclusion of the Test summer, Cowan has been working on his game in the nets, especially his footwork and batting against spin in order to prepare himself for the upcoming tour of India.
Cowan also hopes to eliminate all doubts about whether he truly deserves to open the batting ahead of the back-to-back Ashes series against arch-rivals Australia later this year.
The opener believes there is nothing stopping him from cementing his spot for a long time to come and he even went on to say that if he was able to score a century against South Africa, then he should be able to do so against all other international teams.
With some critics unsure about Cowan’s consistency, the opening batsman looked to put their worries to rest by saying that he was pretty consistent throughout the entire Test summer and hopes to prove it once again in India.
While Cowan admits that he has not made the best of all opportunities, he added that it was good to be playing quality cricket and scoring runs at a decent rate.
