Australian Captain, Michael Clarke, has officially become the newest member of the Pune Warriors.
Clarke, has recently been in the media spotlight about whether he would firstly be playing in the IPL at all, and secondly, whether he would sign with the Pune Warriors, who are in desperate need of some international talents, after fellow Australian, James Hopes, was ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury.
Managing Director of Sahara Adventure Sports Ltd, Sushanto Roy, via a statement, said: “We are thrilled to have Michael Clarke on board, the reigning Australian skipper is one of the world’s best cricketers. His presence in the side, and cricketing proficiency, will boost the prospects of Pune Warriors India in the DLF IPL 2012.”
This will be the Australian Captain’s first ever appearance in the star-studded tournament, but, he will only join the franchise team in May, after completing his tour of the Caribbean.
IPL Chairman, Rajeev Shukla, also via a statement, expressed his delight on having one of the world’s greatest cricketing talents joining the Twenty20 International tournament.
“Clarke was exceptional in the recent Test series against India, as batsman and captain. He is a very popular cricketer in India, and followers of the sport are eagerly looking forward to his participation in the DLF IPL 2012” he said.
With Clarke now officially part of the Pune roster, fans of the franchise have been given a spark of hope, for their team to be crowned the champions of the tournament.
