Bangladesh endured a turbulent opening day in Dhaka as they found themselves in an advantageous position when they bowled Sri Lanka out for 222, during which the returning Abdur Razzak and Taijul Islam snapped up four wickets apiece. However, everything went downhill from there as they lost four wickets prior to the end of the day.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have announced that off-spinner Sohag Gazi, who was recently banned from bowling, is likely to work with the same coaches who helped Abdur Razzak when he was banned for the same problem in 2008.
