Former Test captain Shan Masood believes Babar Azam is “one of the best batsmen Pakistan has ever produced”.
Masood, who was replaced as skipper by Azam, said it is important for the 32-year-old to score runs as it will boost his confidence.
Azam is working towards getting back to his best after a lengthy rough patch, during which he lost his place in the T20I team as his runs dried up.
“I believe he is one of the best batsmen Pakistan has ever produced. Having him scoring runs is always beneficial, as runs provide a batsman with essential confidence,” Masood was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
Azam recently featured in Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka and England, accumulating 118 runs in five games at an average of 23.60.
He will now captain Pakistan in their two-Test series against Sri Lanka, which will be played in Rawalpindi and Lahore from November 9 to 21.
Pakistan will add two speedsters to their team before the series gets underway.
