Pakistan opener Abdullah Fazal has revealed that he has been trying to learn from former Australia batsman Usman Khawaja.
He got the chance to play alongside Khawaja for Rawalpindiz during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this year.
Fazal said he closely observed the 39-year-old during practice and hopes to apply what he learned to improve his own game.
“He’s an opener as well, so I watch him carefully during practice and try to learn from him,” Fazal told Geo News.
Fazal made his Test debut during Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh in May and amassed 141 runs in two matches, which included two fifties, at an average of 35.25.
He did not take part in Pakistan’s recent Test series against the West Indies and England, which the men in green drew 1-1 and lost 3-0 respectively.
The 23-year-old is currently playing first-class cricket and made an impressive start to the President’s Trophy Grade-I competition, scoring a career-best 309 not out for the State Bank of Pakistan against Ghani.
However, in the match against Oil & Gas Development Company Limited, the Karachi-born batsman could only make scores of 1 and 4.
