Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has called for rising star Sameer Minhas to be protected from the country’s coaches.

He noted that Minhas is a rare prospect as he is an emerging batsman who has been performing right from the get-go.

The 19-year-old was highly impressive during the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL), amassing 349 runs in 11 matches for Islamabad United, which included three fifties, at an average of 38.77 and a strike-rate of 155.80.

“May Allah save Sameer Minhas from our coaches. It’s very rare for an emerging batter to start performing right from the first season. Sameer Minhas is an excellent player; I pray that Allah protect him from our coaches,” Salman was quoted as saying by PakPassion.

Minhas is now playing first-class cricket for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in the President’s Trophy Grade-I competition.

So far, he has accumulated 252 runs, which includes three half-centuries, at an average of 50.40.
