Pakistan batsman Sharjeel Khan has revealed he is reinventing himself as a middle order batsman, acknowledging that displacing the current openers would be difficult.
Although a natural opener, the 37-year-old has decided to adapt his role in a bid to force his way back into international contention.
Sharjeel has featured in one Test, 25 ODIs, and 21 T20Is for Pakistan, but last played international cricket in August 2021.
Earlier this year, he represented the Hyderabad Kingsmen in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and made 53 runs in two matches, which included a top score of 51 not out, at an average of 53 and a strike-rate of 170.96.
“It is not easy to replace openers who are representing Pakistan, so i started my process and prepared myself to bat in the middle order,” he was quoted as saying by Khel Shel.
Sharjeel was not selected for Pakistan’s recent three-Test series against England, which the men in green lost 3-0.
Currently, he is representing Ghani in the President’s Trophy Grade-I, which is Pakistan’s first-class competition.
In the match against Khan Research Laboratories, the Hyderabad native had a solid showing, putting up scores of 59 and 44.
