Shamyl Hussain: “When I was performing in domestic cricket, no one questioned my batting. Now, after a couple of failures, it suddenly becomes a problem”

Pakistan batsman Shamyl Hussain has hit back at criticism of his batting, insisting that people are too quick to target him after just “a couple of failures”.
The 21-year-old acknowledged that no batter has a perfect technique and stressed that he is constantly working to improve his game. However, he made it clear he would not alter his batting style based on outside opinions.
Instead, Hussain said he would focus on the areas he believes need work and continue to develop as a player on his own terms.
“As a cricketer, we are always trying to improve. No one has a perfect technique, especially early in their career – you learn gradually. When I was performing in domestic cricket, no one questioned my batting. Now, after a couple of failures, it suddenly becomes a problem,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.
“Public opinion keeps changing. My job is to assess myself and understand what is working. If something won’t work going forward, I’ll change it, but if it is working, I’ll stick with it. I cannot change my batting based on what people say. I didn’t reach here because of them, and I won’t be dropped because of them. My focus is on improving myself and moving forward.”
Hussain made his international debut during Pakistan’s ODI series against Bangladesh in March 2026 and scored 10 runs in two games at an average of five.
He wasn’t picked for Pakistan’s recent two-Test series against the West Indies, which ended as a 1-1 draw.
Additionally, the Islamabad native didn’t make the cut for the three-Test series against England, where the men in green are chasing a consolation win in the 3rd Test in Birmingham.
