Former Pakistan fast bowler Junaid Khan believes the pace duo of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah should be stopped from playing any matches for between one-and-a-half and two months so that they can work on fixing their weaknesses.

Afridi, who captains Pakistan in ODIs, and Naseem have been criticised for not being consistent enough when it comes to taking wickets.

In order to bring them back up to a level where they can have a big impact in international cricket, Junaid reckons the pair need to take a short break.

“Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah should be stopped from playing any matches for one-and-a-half to two months so they can work on their weaknesses and faults,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X.

Afridi and Naseem did not feature in Pakistan’s recent two-Test series against the West Indies, which ended as a 1-1 draw.

They also aren’t part of the squad for the ongoing three-Test series against England, where the men in green are 2-0 down.

Pakistan will now look to claim a consolation win in the 3rd Test, which begins on September 9 in Birmingham.

Pakistan Squad for 3rd Test against England in Birmingham: Babar Azam (captain), Abdullah Fazal, Arafat Minhas, Azan Awais, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Ali, Muhammad Imran, Mohammad Imran Jnr, Ghazi Ghori (wicketkeeper), Razaullah, Saad Baig (wicketkeeper) Saim Ayub, Sajid Khan, Saud Shakeel, Shan Masood, Abdullah Shafique, Ubaid Shah
