Former captain Azhar Ali has faith that top order batsman Babar Azam can still deliver plenty of “memorable innings” for Pakistan in the future.
He has even backed Azam to star in future ICC tournaments for the men in green, even though the 31-year-old has often failed to lead from the front in these high-profile events.
The Lahore-born top-order batsman is gradually working his way back into form after an extended rough patch, and Azhar said he is excited to see what performances Azam will produce once he is firing on all cylinders.
“Babar, he’s a world-class player and I believe that if you support him properly, he can still give us a lot of memorable innings and memorable tournaments for Pakistan,” he told PakPassion.
Azam is currently in action for Pakistan in the 2026 T20 World Cup and has made 66 runs in four matches at an average of 22 and a strike-rate of 115.78.
The men in green booked their spot in the Super Eights after beating the Netherlands, United States of America and Namibia in the group stage. Their only loss so far has come against India.
Pakistan’s first Super Eights game against New Zealand ended in frustration as it was washed out without a ball bowled.
Next up for Pakistan will be England, who they will face on February 24 in Pallekele.
