Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz has opened up about his approach to batting, saying he will counterattack if the situation demands it.

He explained that if Pakistan are struggling on a tricky pitch or wickets have tumbled quickly, he shifts into a rebuilding role to steady the innings and get the team back on track.

Ultimately, Nawaz stressed that his mindset depends entirely on the match situation when he walks out to bat, allowing him to adapt effectively across different scenarios.

“With the bat, my mindset depends on the game. If the pitch is difficult or wickets are falling, then my focus is on building a partnership and stabilising the innings. But if the situation demands a counterattack, I back myself to play that role too. The moment I walk in, I try to read the situation and decide how to approach the innings,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Nawaz is currently playing in the 2026 T20 World Cup, where he has amassed 15 runs in three games at an average of five and a strike-rate of 53.57.

He has also taken three wickets at an average of 29 and an economy rate of 7.90.

Pakistan started their campaign with consecutive wins over the Netherlands and United States of America before their momentum was halted by a 61-run loss to India.

Next up for the men in green will be a clash against Namibia on February 18 in Colombo.
