Sri Lanka ODI captain Charith Asalanka has lavished praise on the Pakistan duo of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman, calling them “some of the best batsmen”.

Azam and Zaman were recently involved in Pakistan’s ODI series against Sri Lanka, with the former scoring 165 runs in three matches, which included his first international century since August 2023, at an average of 82.50.

As for Zaman, he also struck 165 runs, which included two fifties, at an average of 55.

After the ODIs, Pakistan faced Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in a T20I tri-series, which they won.

Azam finished with 127 runs in five games, which included a top score of 74, at an average of 31.75 and a strike-rate of 112.38.

Zaman, meanwhile, made 75 runs in five matches at an average of 25 and a strike-rate of 150.

“Pakistan has some of the best batsmen like Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman,” Asalanka was quoted as saying by Samaa TV.

Azam is now involved in the Big Bash League (BBL), where he has amassed 201 runs in nine matches for the Sydney Sixers, which includes two fifties, at an average of 28.71 and a strike-rate of 107.48.

While he missed Pakistan’s T20I tour of Sri Lanka, Zaman was part of the squad and scored five runs in the one game he played.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match T20I series against Australia, which will be held in Lahore from January 29 to February 1.
