Mike Hesson: “Babar Azam is not out of form – he’s actually in extremely good form”

Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Mike Hesson dismissed concerns about Babar Azam’s form, insisting that the star batsman is “actually in extremely good form”.
Although Babar had endured a difficult run over the past few months, he has recently shown clear signs of rediscovering his touch.
During Pakistan’s home series against South Africa, he produced a couple of outstanding knocks – scoring 50 in the Test series and 68 in the T20Is that followed.
The 31-year-old then went on to register an unbeaten 102 in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, marking his first international century since August 2023.
After that came the T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe, where he hit a fantastic 74 against the latter.
Highlighting these performances, Hesson reaffirmed that the Lahore-born batter remains in fine form.
“Babar Azam is not out of form – he’s actually in extremely good form,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Azam missed Pakistan’s recent T20I tour of Sri Lanka and is currently representing the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL).
So far, he has amassed 201 runs in nine matches, which includes two fifties, at an average of 28.71 and a strike-rate of 107.48.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a three-match T20I series against Australia, scheduled to be held in Lahore from January 29 to February 1.
