Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali wants to know why batsman Kamran Ghulam was dropped from the Test squad so suddenly.
Ghulam used to be one of Pakistan’s go-to middle order batsmen in the longest format and enjoyed a strong start to his Test career as he scored a century on debut against England in October 2024.
Overall, the 30-year-old has featured in six Tests and amassed 312 runs at an average of 28.36.
Ghulam has also played 11 ODIs, accumulating 210 runs, which includes a hundred and a fifty, at an average of 30.
Considering that the Upper Dir native has been a strong performer in domestic cricket for many years, Basit cannot understand why he wasn’t given a longer run in the Test team.
“Kamran Ghulam performed in domestic cricket but you didn’t play him,” he said on ARY News as quoted by the Times of Karachi.
Ghulam missed Pakistan’s recent home series against South Africa, the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, and the T20I tri-series against Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
In that time, he has been taking part in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy (QeA Trophy), which is Pakistan’s first-class tournament.
So far, he hasn’t enjoyed a lot of success in the competition as he has made 104 runs in five matches for Abbottabad Region at an average of 14.85.
However, the same cannot be said for his bowling as he has taken nine wickets at an average of 23.22.
