Wasim Akram: “I was talking to Waqar (Younis), and I asked, how come he hasn’t fixed the run-up in the last four or five years since he’s been playing? He said he doesn’t play red-ball cricket”

Iconic Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram revealed he spoke to fellow fast bowling legend Waqar Younis about why Haris Rauf has yet to fix his run-up.

Wasim noted that Waqar believed Rauf’s ongoing run-up problem stems from his lack of experience in red-ball cricket.

The Sultan of Swing also expressed his disbelief that Rauf hasn’t fixed the issue despite it persisting for four to five years.

“I was talking to Waqar (Younis), and I asked, how come he hasn’t fixed the run-up in the last four or five years since he’s been playing? He said he doesn’t play red-ball cricket,” Wasim said on Sony Sports as quoted by NDTV.

Rauf recently represented Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup, where he claimed nine wickets in five matches at an average of 18.33 and an economy rate of nine.

The men in green were then in action against South Africa, but Rauf did not feature in both the Test and T20I series.

He made his return in the ODI series and went wicketless in the one match he played.

Next up for Pakistan will be a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka from November 11 to 15.

After that, Pakistan will feature in a T20I tri-series involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe from November 17 to 29.
