Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Ali has made it clear that he is not “competing with anyone” and simply wants to “fulfil whatever role I am assigned”.
Ali has seen more chances come his way following a string of impressive performances in domestic cricket and T20 leagues.
The 32-year-old made his T20I debut in the five-match series against New Zealand in March 2025 and took one wicket in three games at an average of 86 and an economy rate of 12.28.
He then made his ODI debut against the Black Caps and claimed one wicket in the one match he played.
Even though the men in green have many options when it comes to their pace attack, Ali pointed out that he is solely focused on performing to the best of his ability.
“I am not competing with anyone. My goal is to fulfil whatever role I am assigned,” he was quoted as saying by A Sports.
Since the New Zealand tour, Ali hasn’t represented his country at the international level as he was overlooked for all their assignments, including the 2025 Asia Cup.
Pakistan are now taking on South Africa and began by drawing the two-Test series 1-1.
Both sides are now battling it out in a three-match T20I series, where the men in green trail 1-0.
They will then meet for a three-match ODI series from November 4 to 8.
After this, Pakistan will go up against Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series from November 11 to 15, before participating in a T20I tri-series with Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe between November 17 and 29.
