Basit Ali: “Why is Mohammad Hasnain, who is your next big fast bowler, not in the squad? He has proven his ability, yet he is ignored in both formats. What kind of injustice is this to a young, talented player?”

Former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali wants to know why the men in green are not using Mohammad Hasnain when he was supposed to be the “next big fast bowler”.
Hasnain has shown plenty of potential, but has played international cricket sporadically over the last few years.
Most recently, he featured in Pakistan’s ODI tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa, but only played one game, where he went wicketless.
Since his last match came all the way back in February 2025, he missed Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, the limited overs tour of the West Indies, and the T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan.
He also wasn’t picked for the 2025 Asia Cup, where the men in green reached the final before losing to India.
With so many opportunities having passed by, Basit criticised the lack of chances being given to the 25-year-old, calling it an “injustice”.
“Why is Mohammad Hasnain, who is your next big fast bowler, not in the squad? He has proven his ability, yet he is ignored in both formats. What kind of injustice is this to a young, talented player?” he was quoted as saying by NDTV.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a home series against South Africa from October 12 to November 8.
The series will consist of two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
Pakistan squad for South Africa Test series: Shan Masood (captain), Aamer Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Asif Afridi, Babar Azam, Faisal Akram, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Kamran Ghulam, Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Noman Ali, Rohail Nazir (wicketkeeper), Sajid Khan, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel and Shaheen Shah Afridi
