Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi said he expects his son-in-law, Shaheen Shah Afridi, to concentrate on taking wickets instead of scoring runs.

Shahid noted that as the national team’s pace spearhead, it is Shaheen’s responsibility to make early breakthroughs.

In order to do that, he wants the 25-year-old to focus on swinging the ball in order to trouble the opposition batsmen.

During the 2025 Asia Cup, Shaheen smashed 83 runs in seven matches at an average of 41.50 and a strike-rate of 176.59.

He also took 10 wickets at an average of 16.40 and an economy rate of 6.60.

“I don’t want runs from Shaheen, I want bowling from Shaheen… Shaheen should understand that his role is to swing the new ball and he should know how to take wickets by moving the ball. He should focus on his game plan,” Shahid told Samaa TV as quoted by NDTV.

Pakistan’s next assignment will see them host South Africa for two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs from October 12 to November 8.
