Former England captain Michael Vaughan has hailed legendary Pakistan batsman Javed Miandad, saying he was a great player and competitor who possessed incredible “skill and ferocity”.
He noted that Miandad is one of his favourite Pakistan batsmen of all time, while adding that the 68-year-old played the sweep shot brilliantly.
Miandad represented his country in 124 Tests and scored 8,832 runs, which included 23 centuries and 43 fifties, at an average of 52.57.
He also accumulated 7,381 runs in 233 ODIs, which included eight hundreds and 50 half-centuries, at an average of 41.70.
“I had this player in my top three Pakistan players of all time two nights ago – Javed Miandad. What a player! Just a wonderful competitor! Back in the 80s, skill and ferocity. He was probably the first I ever saw who swept the ball brilliantly across all formats,” Vaughan was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
The Pakistan team recently played a T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in Sharjah, which they won.
They were then involved in the 2025 Asia Cup, where they made it to the final before losing to India by five wickets.
Next up for the men in green will be a home series against South Africa, which will comprise two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
The series will be held between October 12 and November 8.
