Pakistan fast bowling great Wasim Akram believes the best is yet to come for batsman Babar Azam even though he has already achieved so much in his career.
Azam is going through a lengthy rough patch right now, but Wasim has backed him to rediscover his form soon.
Not only does the Sultan of Swing see the 30-year-old making a roaring comeback, he also thinks the Lahore native will win many matches for Pakistan in the future.
“He is already a great batsman, but his best is yet to come – and he will also lead the team to victory,” Wasim was quoted as saying by A Sports.
Azam was ignored by the selectors for Pakistan’s three-match series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, the T20I series against the West Indies, and the T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan.
He did feature in the ODI series against the West Indies, scoring 56 runs at an average of 18.66.
Most recently, Pakistan were involved in the 2025 Asia Cup, which Azam wasn’t picked for either.
The men in green managed to make it to the final, but failed to lift the trophy as India beat them by five wickets.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a home series against South Africa, which will comprise two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
The series will be played from October 12 to November 8.
