Salman Butt: “If Saim Ayub has a good day – which unfortunately hasn’t been often due to his lack of consistency – he too can win a game with his ability”

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt wants opening batsman Saim Ayub to be more consistent as he knows the 23-year-old can single-handedly win matches for the team.
Ayub has demonstrated considerable potential but has only had brief spells of dominance where he has accumulated a significant amount of runs.
Salman hopes this changes soon as he knows the Karachi native can add a lot of value to the men in green when he is firing on all cylinders.
“If Saim Ayub has a good day – which unfortunately hasn’t been often due to his lack of consistency – he too can win a game with his ability,” he was quoted as saying by Geo Super.
Ayub recently featured in the T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan, where he scored 111 runs in five matches, which included a top score of 69, at an average of 22.20 and a strike-rate of 132.14.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go well for Ayub in the 2025 Asia Cup as he only managed to make 37 runs in seven games at an average of 5.28 and a strike-rate of 97.36.
Even though he struggled to have any kind of impact, the men in green still made it to the final, where they ultimately lost to India by five wickets.
Pakistan’s next assignment will be a home series against South Africa from October 12 to November 8.
The series will consist of two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs.
