Veteran cricketer Fawad Alam believes there is “no bigger player than Babar Azam in Pakistan cricket right now”.
Azam has been struggling to score runs consistently, but arguably remains the most popular cricketer in the country.
The 30-year-old hasn’t been part of Pakistan’s squad for any of their recent T20I assignments, which included a three-match series against Bangladesh in Lahore, a tour of Bangladesh, a three-match series against the West Indies, and a tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan.
The only series he has been part of as of late was the three ODIs between Pakistan and the West Indies, where he made 56 runs at an average of 18.66.
Although his form has been a major concern for many months, Fawad expressed strong support for the Lahore native, saying he is “better than most of our legends” as his performances in ODIs and T20Is have been nothing short of “extraordinary”.
“Babar Azam is better than most of our legends. His performances in ODIs and T20s are extraordinary. There’s no bigger player than Babar Azam in Pakistan cricket right now,” he was quoted as saying by ARY News.
Azam wasn’t included in Pakistan’s team for the recently-concluded 2025 Asia Cup, where the men in green made it to the final before losing to India.
Next up for Pakistan will be a home series against South Africa that will include two Tests, three T20Is, and three ODIs. It will take place between October 12 and November 8.
