Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Haris has expressed his desire to bat like South Africa legend AB de Villiers and England’s Jos Buttler.

The 24-year-old described De Villiers as being his principal and Buttler his teacher, while he is “[a] student of their school of batting”.

Haris is known for his aggressive style of batting, but has struggled to score runs consistently, which has led to him being in and out of the national team.

However, he is determined to work hard in order to reach De Villiers and Buttler’s level.

“AB de Villiers is my principal and Jos Buttler is my teacher, whereas I’m [a] student of their school of batting,” the Peshawar native was quoted as saying by journalist Arfa Feroz Zake on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Haris recently played in Pakistan’s T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in Sharjah.

In five matches, he mustered 33 runs at an average of 6.60 and a strike-rate of 84.61.

Haris is now representing his country in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being held in the UAE.

So far, he has accumulated 131 runs in six matches, which includes a top score of 66, at an average of 26.20 and a strike-rate of 136.45.

Pakistan defeated Oman and the UAE in the group stage, but also lost to India.

They fell to India again in the Super Four, but rebounded with wins over Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to make it to the final.

Pakistan will play India in the Asia Cup final on September 28 in Dubai.
