Shoaib Akhtar: “I was getting hammered by David Warner, but when Amir came on, Warner had no clue whether to go forward or back. He could not read Amir’s swing or pace”

Legendary Pakistan pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar lauded Mohammad Amir when recalling how Australia opening batsman David Warner was unable to read the left-arm seamer’s swing or pace.
Akhtar noted that this occurred during a match where he was “getting hammered” by Warner.
However, when Amir came on to bowl, he silenced the 38-year-old to the point where he “had no clue whether to go forward or back”.
“I was getting hammered by David Warner, but when Amir came on, Warner had no clue whether to go forward or back. He could not read Amir’s swing or pace,” Akhtar was quoted as saying by A Sports.
Amir recently played in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and took 13 wickets in nine matches for the Quetta Gladiators at an average of 18.07 and an economy rate of 7.79.
As for Warner, he captained the Karachi Kings and scored 368 runs in 11 games, which included three fifties, at an average of 33.45 and a strike-rate of 153.97.
After PSL 10, Pakistan took on Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series, which they won 3-0.
The men in green then travelled to Bangladesh and lost the T20I series 2-1.
They then toured the West Indies and won the T20I series 2-1, but lost the ODIs 2-1.
Next up was a T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in Sharjah, which they won.
Pakistan are now taking part in the 2025 Asia Cup, which is being played in the UAE.
They began with a 93-run over Oman before losing to arch-rivals India by seven wickets.
The men in green then faced the UAE on September 17 in Dubai and came away with a 41-run win.
