Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal believes mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed’s confidence has been negatively impacted by his inconsistent playing time.
Abrar has seen more game time lately, but doesn’t regularly play all the games in an entire series.
Given the huge amount of potential the 26-year-old has shown so far, Akmal cannot believe the selectors and team management are ruining his confidence levels.
“You have Abrar, but you have shut down his confidence so much,” he told Cricket Pakistan as quoted by NDTV.
In Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, Abrar took three wickets at an average of 27 and an economy rate of 8.10.
He then went wicketless in the one match he played during Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh, which consisted of three T20Is.
As for the white-ball tour of the West Indies, the Karachi native did not take part in the T20I series.
However, he did feature in the ODIs and picked up three wickets in two matches at an average of 19.
Most recently, Abrar was in action in the T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan, and claimed six wickets in two matches at an average of 4.33 and an economy rate of 3.25.
Pakistan are now involved in the 2025 Asia Cup, which began on September 9 in the UAE and will conclude on September 28.
