Pakistan batsman Babar Azam: “I don’t like to talk much – I prefer to let my game speak on the field. I know how to speak; everyone can speak. But self-respect also matters. My elders have taught me to respect everyone”

Pakistan batsman Babar Azam said he doesn’t “like to talk much” as he prefers to let his batting do the talking for him.
Azam noted that he has been taught to respect everyone and has no intention of biting back at his critics when they lash out at him.
Instead, he is focused on getting back into form, which will allow him to silence all his doubters.
The 30-year-old has had a tough time scoring runs lately, but is confident that he will get back to his best soon.
“I don’t like to talk much – I prefer to let my game speak on the field. I know how to speak; everyone can speak. But self-respect also matters. My elders have taught me to respect everyone. My focus is on what I do on the ground. I work hard on the field, and I’m never satisfied with my performance. Even when I was ranked number one, I was never fully content. I always look ahead after performing well and think about my country,” the Lahore native was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Recently, Azam featured in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he captained the Peshawar Zalmi and accumulated 288 runs in 10 games, which included three fifties, at an average of 36 and a strike-rate of 128.57.
Once PSL 10 ended, he was left out of Pakistan’s squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, and the T20I series against the West Indies.
Azam ended up returning for the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, where he made 56 runs at an average of 18.66.
Pakistan are now taking on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in a T20I tri-series in Sharjah, which will finish on September 7.
After that, the men in green will be involved in the 2025 Asia Cup, which will be played in the UAE from September 9 to 28.
Azam was not picked in the squad Pakistan unveiled for the T20 tri-series and Asia Cup.
