Former head coach Mickey Arthur believes Pakistan should make the most of ODI captain Mohammad Rizwan’s abilities as “he has a role to play” in the team.
He noted that Rizwan is an elite cricketer as he can “adapt his game to fit wherever the team needs him”.
On top of that, the 33-year-old from Peshawar has been one of Pakistan’s most consistent run-scorers across all three formats for many years.
“If Rizwan is your best wicketkeeper, then he has a role to play. He can adapt his game to fit wherever the team needs him. It’s about making the most of his abilities,” Arthur was quoted as saying by ARY News.
Rizwan recently captained the Multan Sultans in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and had an excellent campaign with the bat, scoring 367 runs in 10 matches, which included a century and a fifty, at an average of 52.42 and a strike-rate of 139.54.
Despite this, he was not included in Pakistan’s team for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, the T20I tour of Bangladesh, and the T20I series against the West Indies.
Rizwan returned to captain the men in green in the ODI series against the West Indies and amassed 69 runs in three games, which included a top score of 53, at an average of 23.
Pakistan are now involved in a T20I tri-series against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Afghanistan in Sharjah, which will finish on September 7.
Following this, they will play in the 2025 Asia Cup, which will take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28.
