Former Pakistan pace bowler Tanvir Ahmed has slammed the way Babar Azam has been targeted, questioning if the star batsman would be treated the same way if he played for England.

Azam has been going through a rough patch for many months, but has shown glimpses of getting back to his best at times.

Given all that the 30-year-old has done for Pakistan cricket, Tanvir asked why he is being treated in such a terrible way.

“If Babar Azam was in England, would he be treated the same [way]? Would England treat him this way?” he told PakPassion.

Azam recently captained the Peshawar Zalmi in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and scored 288 runs in 10 games, which included three fifties, at an average of 36 and a strike-rate of 128.57.

After PSL 10, he was not picked for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore and the subsequent T20I tour of Bangladesh.

The Lahore native also failed to make the cut for the T20I series against the West Indies, but did feature in the three ODIs, where he made 56 runs at an average of 18.66.
