Former Pakistan red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie thinks Test captain Shan Masood is “one of the most impressive leaders” he has ever come across.
Gillespie’s praise for Masood comes at a time where speculation is mounting that the 35-year-old could be stripped of the leadership role.
Gillespie doesn’t know if doing that will be such a good idea, especially given how positive Masood is and the fact that he puts the team first.
“Pakistan are very fortunate to have such a great leader in the Test arena in Shan Masood. He’s one of the most impressive leaders I’ve come across in cricket, and I’ve been in cricket a long time,” the ex-Australia seamer told PakPassion.
“I believe Shan Masood is a fine leader of men, he speaks very well, he’s very positive. He’s always looking at the positives and looks to take the positive option, and I think that’s exactly what Pakistan cricket needs – these selfless characters who are very team-oriented. I can’t speak highly enough of Shan Masood.”
Masood recently represented the Karachi Kings in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and scored 27 runs in three matches at an average of nine and a strike-rate of 84.37.
Following the PSL, he did not play for Pakistan in their three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore.
He also wasn’t part of the tour of Bangladesh, where the men in green lost the T20I series 2-1.
As for the West Indies tour, he didn’t get picked in both the T20I and ODI squads.
