Lahore Qalandars owner Sameen Rana revealed he has always said Abdullah Shafique “is the best batsman in Pakistan”.
Rana’s comments come after Shafique played an instrumental role in helping the Qalandars win the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The 25-year-old was the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament with 390 runs in 13 matches, which included three fifties, at an average of 32.50 and a strike-rate of 148.28.
“I have always said Abdullah Shafique is the best batsman in Pakistan,” Rana was quoted as saying by Khel Shel on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Following PSL 10, Shafique was not selected for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which the men in green won 3-0.
He was also overlooked by the selectors for the tour of Bangladesh, where Pakistan lost the T20I series 2-1.
Instead, Shafique played county cricket in England as he represented Yorkshire in the County Championship and Vitality Blast.
The Sialkot native is set for a return to international cricket, though, as he was picked in the ODI team for the ongoing tour of the West Indies.
Pakistan won the T20I series 2-1.
The ODI series will begin on August 9 in Trinidad.
