Former Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur said class players like batsman Babar Azam “don’t come around very often”.
Arthur’s comments come when he was talking about Azam’s involvement in T20Is for Pakistan.
He noted that the 30-year-old should be in the squad and believes the Lahore native “will certainly adapt his game” if he is given the chance to revive his T20I career.
“Babar Azam is a class, class player. Class players don’t come around very often. Class players are good enough to adapt their games as well and I think in the right environment, I think Babar Azam will certainly adapt his game,” Arthur told PakPassion.
Azam was recently in action in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and captained the Peshawar Zalmi.
In 10 matches, he amassed 288 runs in 10 games, which included three fifties, at an average of 36 and a strike-rate of 128.57.
Despite his solid performance with the bat, Azam was left out of Pakistan’s squad for their three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore.
He was also overlooked for the tour of Bangladesh, where the men in green lost the T20I series 2-1.
Pakistan are now touring the West Indies for three T20Is and three ODIs.
Azam once again was ignored for the T20I series, which the men in green won 2-1.
However, he has been picked for the upcoming ODI series, which begins on August 9 in Trinidad.
