Pakistan middle order batsman Saud Shakeel has lauded left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir, saying he has a significant impact in the powerplay.

Amir is renowned for his ability to take wickets with the new ball – something that has made him a very dangerous bowler.

However, Shakeel noted that even if the 33-year-old doesn’t take wickets, he still contributes by putting the opposition team under immense pressure.

“While he may not take wickets every time, his impact in the powerplay is significant,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), Shakeel played alongside Amir while captaining the Quetta Gladiators.

In nine matches, Amir took 13 wickets at an average of 18.07 and an economy rate of 7.79.

Since he has retired from international cricket, the Gujar Khan native was not picked for Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, which the men in green won 3-0.

He also missed the tour of Bangladesh, where Pakistan lost the T20I series 2-1.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a tour of the West Indies, which will consist of three T20Is and three ODIs that will be played from August 1 to 12.
