Left-arm spinner Umer Khan has expressed his disappointment at not being given more opportunities to play despite winning the Emerging Player award following the 2019 Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Umer was identified as a future star who many thought would go on to have a bright future.

However, things haven’t gone that way for the 25-year-old, especially considering his last domestic match came all the way back in January 2024.

The Rawalpindi native claimed that he had been sidelined, but didn’t specify who was responsible for this. Instead, he rued the fact that he hasn’t been able to showcase his talent on a more consistent basis.

“They sidelined me and didn’t give me chances after the 2019 PSL,” he was quoted as saying by respected journalist Saj Sadiq on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Umer didn’t appear in PSL 10 and also missed Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore, which they won 3-0.

The men in green then toured Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series, but weren’t as successful as they were beaten 2-1.

Pakistan’s next assignment will be a tour of the West Indies, which will consist of three T20Is and three ODIs that will be played from August 1 to 12.
