Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed: “It is very important to have variations and then there are a lot of aspects of bowling according to which you employ your variations”

Pakistan mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed has spoken about the importance of variations when bowling, saying it plays a vital role in getting him wickets.
He added that it is also crucial to bowl according to the field he has set and keep in mind the type of batsman he is bowling to.
“It is very important to have variations and then there are a lot of aspects of bowling according to which you employ your variations. For example, it is vital to note whether you are bowling into or against the air and the type of batter you are facing,” the 26-year-old told PCB Digital.
“Sometimes you have to also consider your field setting while tackling some of the batters. Despite having the mystery in my bowling, I still believe a lot of mental and tactical work is required to put brakes on run-flow and to grab wickets.”
Recently, Abrar played for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL) and was the joint second-highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 19.23 and an economy rate of 7.34.
Following PSL 10, he featured in Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh and ended up with three wickets at an average of 27 and an economy rate of 8.10.
He then toured Bangladesh with the Pakistan team for a three-match T20I series, but went wicketless in the one game he played.
The men in green lost the series 2-1.
