Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam has called out big-hitter Mohammad Haris, saying he “lacks game awareness” and throws his wicket away at key moments.
Haris has shown great potential, but has been in and out of the national team due to his inconsistent performances.
Azam conceded that things have to change if the 24-year-old wants to keep hold of his spot in the Pakistan squad.
“Haris is in form but lacks game awareness and has thrown away his wicket at key moments 2-3 times,” he was quoted as saying by PakPassion on X, formerly known as Twitter.
During the 2025 Pakistan Super League (PSL), Haris made 247 runs in 10 matches for the Peshawar Zalmi, which included a top score of 87, at an average of 27.44 and a strike-rate of 148.79.
He then took part in Pakistan’s three-match T20I series against Bangladesh and finished with 179 runs, which included a career-best knock of 107 not out, at an average of 89.50 and a strike-rate of 201.12.
Following this, the Peshawar native was selected for Pakistan’s tour of Bangladesh, but couldn’t have the same kind of impact in the three-match T20I series in Mirpur as he scored nine runs at an average of three and a strike-rate of 50.
To make matters worse, Pakistan lost the series 2-1.
